Funtiques Mall Display

A Fun Mall Display

In October of 2015 a sales representative from the Battlefield Mall in Springfield Mo. came to me at Green Gallery and asked if we would be interested in a advertising experiment in the Mall.  She had been to our store in Ozark and thought that we might be a good candidate for the adventure.  I met with her at Battlefield Mall and she showed me several of the planters where we could create a display.  The planters were being used for the traditional tropical plants and mulch.  They looked very nice but she was trying to think outside the box in how else the spaces could be used.  






It was a strange shaped space but large and in a good location.







After some negotiating we agreed to a three month planter space in the middle of the Mall located between the American Eagle and Hollister stores.  It is a odd shaped space with one end being 4 feet off the floor level and the other end being 2 feet off the floor.  There are steps on one side and a ramp on the other so there is viewing on all sides.





 The plants and mulch were removed.  We put a base of plywood down over the remaining pebbles to make it easier to work with and so we could secure our items to it.  We discussed several options for covering the flooring 
and ended up with burlap being the most inexpensive and neutral. 

It took 4 sheets of plywood to cover the odd shaped space.


After lots of space planning via graph paper and working with the space on site we ended up dividing the planter into two segments.  We wanted to have a backdrop to play off of to create a Mod Retro living space.  In front of the partition we put a Mod 60's sectional, Round Red Shag Rug, Mod 60's TV, a Bright Yellow 70's Arched Floor Lamp, a Spool with a Mid Century 6 ft. Aluminum Silver Tinsel Tree and Clear Acrylic boxes with Fun Vintage Items in them.






On the opposite side of the wall we created a little garden space.









We ordered a cling with our logo so we could attach it to our vintage Mod TV!










On the ramp side we created a glass case full of Vintage, Mid Century and Fun Items that people could look at when walking by.




Our signage consisted of two signs with both Funtiques and Green Gallery logo's, a map, verbiage and a 25% discount if they took a photograph the sign and brought it to Green Gallery.  We have had new people from the Mall almost every day since we put the display up!!

A Fun Vintage Baby Shower!

Vintage Baby Shower!!

Last Summer a Mother came to me and asked about Green Gallery being the venue for her daughters Baby Shower.  She had expressed how much her daughter loved Vintage and thought Green Gallery would be the perfect place for the gathering.  She also wanted me to decorate and come up with a take home gift for the guests.  


Every table was set with vintage linens, dishes, flower pots and decor.  
Prior to the shower I set each table to see how it would look.  This picture is minus the drinking glasses,  tableware and centerpiece plant.










    Several of the tables had scrabble boards with words like      baby boy. precious, the Mamma's name....









Each Table had Vintage Toys, fun Scrabble Words and of course Flowers and Lemon Cypress plants as center pieces.








I also used vintage blocks to spell out messages for the tables



I came up with this crazy idea to use vintage baby shoes as a succulent planter for the guest gift.  I really did not think it would be as hard as it was to locate 30 shoes for the project.  If you decide to do this project be sure to give yourself plenty of time to hunt for the shoes. 



I took the laces out and separated the shoes and spray painted the shoes colors that would match the vintage table clothes.  

Several coats of paint, ribbon laces and the shoes were ready for dirt and succulent cuttings.  I also added a few pebbles so you would not see the dirt in the finished shoe. 

The shoes turned out great and everyone was excited to take their little guest gift home.


It was a fun project and hopefully a beautiful memory for those who attended.

Winter Blues

It is that time of year when Hunting FUN is hard.  Not only are there fewer items to choose from but the weather conditions make it difficult. 
 
 
Dispite that it is winter and searching is harder, we have been able to find some wonderful items.  So what does it take to acquire FUN in the winter??  Well that depends. 
For us it requires lots of time dedicated to a travel plan, using our day off as our hunting day, 5:00am mornings, standing in line in the snow, shoping everywhere (even places that you have not been successful and prayer. 
For you it could mean the same or......
you could just shop at Funtiques

Slim Pickins

Sometimes your best plans just don't pan out.  We decided to head to St. Louis on Saturday to hit some interesting sales only to find that all the items we wanted were already gone.  We brought the trailer thinking that we would fill it up (which cost us pushing 200.00 in gas).  Don't get me wrong we still found some items but not enough to merit dragging our trailer or the cost.  Sometimes it just works out that way.  A lot of effort and energy with little to show for it. We did score a Butter Yellow Velvet Sofa and Chair, A Large Aqua Storage Unit, Two Mod Chrome Chairs, Vintage Clothes, Flamingo's, Primitive Pink Trash Can, Primitive Small Table with Drawer, Other Primitives, Some Collectibles and Smalls. Pics to come. 
 
I know there is more FUN to find and a better trip ahead.

Squeezing In Time for Shopping

Recently we traveled to Kansas City to participate in a Family Reunion.  Of course we had to figure out how were going to squeeze in shopping for Funtiques at the same time.  We left on a Friday morning and hit every sale, shop and auction we could fit into one day.  We spent the night in KC with some family.  Saturday afternoon was the Family party.  We got up early on Sat. and spent 3 more hours hunting FUN.  It's a good thing we love shopping as much as we do.  And yes, the Family Reunion was fun too!

Funtiques Loves Moms

St. Louis Buying Extravaganza

On Wednesday we had a Mid Century Dealer from out of state buy a trailer load of Funtiques Furniture and smalls.  Because we had the Ozark Antique Festival Saturday and Sunday we decided to jump into the van Thursday and see what we could find in St. Louis.  We were hopeful that we would find some great items to bring back to Funtiques and to share at the antique show.  Little did we know that we would find so much that we had to borrow my sisters garage in St. Louis to store what we could not fit into the van.  We started at 6:30 the next morning and did not return back to my sisters house until pushing 9pm.  YIKES.  Up the next morning (Friday) at 6am for a sale and then on the road back to Springfield with a van full.  Friday night we set up for the Antique Show at the Fairgrounds.  Saturday the show ran from 9 - 5.  Crashed that night.  Up Sunday for another day at the fair.  Packed everything up and brought it to Funtiques Sunday night.  Back to work for both of us Mon. morning.  We went back to St. Louis after work on Saturday night to pick up what we left in my sisters garage.  Shopped on Sunday on the way back to Springfield.  Unloaded the trailor Sunday night.  Calapsted.  Returned to work on Mon.  I am pretty sure WE ARE CRAZY.  We love what we do but it is hard work, long hours, heavy lifting and a crazy life style.  Check out the rewards of our efforts!!

Milwaukee or Bust

Many of you admired the green velvet sectional we had for sale at Funtiques.  Before anyone could scoop up the sectional our daughter and her boyfriend who live in Milwaukee bought it.  The sofa had been our family for 15 years so it was sentimental along with totally awesome.  Therefor we scheduled a furniture delivery to Milwaukee in December so they could have it for the Holidays!
 
 
At 8:00am on Friday Dec. 3rd we hit the road with a trailer full.  We spent the day Friday stopping at all our favorite hot vintage spots on the way to St. Louis.  I can't tell you where they are or I would have to kill you.  We found a few fun items but nothing to jump up and down about.  We spent the night with my sister in St. Louis.  The next morning we hit the road to Milwaukee early.  We hit snow outside Springfield Illinois and it didn't stop until we arrived in Milwaukee.  YIKES.  The roads were clear but we got a little stuck in some vintage, thrift and antique parking lots.  Pulling a trailer makes for parking challenges.  Especially in Snow.  Once again we found a few fun items but nothing really special.  It's always FUN just to hunt!!!!  We met my daughter and her boyfriend at their loft once we arrived in Milwaukee.  In addition to the sectional we had brought some other surprises.  We thought they had a freight elevator available for us to use but found out that it was not accessible.  Of course they lived on the 3rd floor.  Up the 3 flights of stairs we went.   
 
                                                                                         
 
 
                                                                                          The surprise was an antique card catalog unit made of oak  which is something my daughter had been hunting for and a large vintage 50's fan.  The card catalog and fan were our early Christmas gifts.  It all seemed like a good idea when we thought we had an elevator we could use.  
I thought I was going to die after 10 or more trips up and down the stairs carrying things.  I needed oxygen and a masseuse.  They were very excited and pleased with their sofa and gift surprises so I guess it was worth it.  They live in a 4000sf loft with lots of COOL SPACE, potential and drafts.  It was very cold the whole time we were in Milwaukee.  I was warm for 1 hour when we sat in the sun at a restaurant.   We had a wonderful time despite the stairs, snow and cold. We shopped, shopped, shopped, ate, went to a craft show my daughter helped organize, shopped, slept, went to a movie, shopped and drove home. 
 
 
 
 
 
We scored a MOD FABRIC sofa, dresser, shabby kitch chairs, two end tables, plaid rocker, lots of smalls and vintage clothing.

On the road North

We are on the road headed to Milwaukee this week.  Our trailer is full of Funtiques that we are taking to our daughter who lives in Milwaukee.  I know we will have stories to share with you about the trip.  We are hoping to find more retro FUN on this trip to fill up the trailer.  Wish us luck.
